Cedar Rapids Kernels get fine start from Randy Dobnak, split double-header with Q.C.

DAVENPORT - Randy Dobnak's complete-game five-hitter lifted the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 2-1 win over Quad Cities in the first game of a Midwest League double-header Saturday afternoon at Modern Woodmen Park.
Quad Cities came back to win Game 2 and gain a spilt, 4-1.
Dobnak retired 10 of the final 11 hitters he faced, striking out six River Bandits in the game. He threw exactly 100 pitches.
Royce Lewis had a RBI groundout in the first inning, then gave the Kernels a lead in the third with a run-scoring single that scored Jordan Gore. Gore went 3-for-3 in the game.
Cristian Javier and Carlos Sanabria combined for a four-hitter in Game 2 for Quad Cities. C.R.'s lone run came in the top of the first, when Jean Carlos Arias tripled and scored on a Trey Cabbage double.
Newcomer Melvi Acosta took the loss in his first Kernels start and appearance. He allowed three hits and two runs in 3 1/3 innings.
Cedar Rapids is 9-8 in the first half, Quad Cities 10-11. The teams conclude their three-day, four-game series Sunday afternoon.
