Cedar Rapids Kernels drop opener of road trip, 3-2, to Dayton

DAYTON, Ohio — Jose Garcia had two hits and two RBIs as the Dayton Dragons edged the Cedar Rapids Kernels, 3-2, in Midwest League baseball Monday night.
Starting pitcher Edwar Colina (2-1) took the loss for Cedar Rapids, walking six and allowing a pair of runs in 3 1/3 innings. The Kernels got three hits from Royce Lewis and two from Alex Kirilloff, though they both flied out with runners on first and second base in the ninth inning.
Kirilloff hit a line drive to the gap that was run down by Dayton center fielder Miles Gordon.
The Kernels are 14-11, Dayton (16-12). They play again Tuesday night.
