Cedar Rapids baseball history timeline

Professional baseball has played an important role in the city of Cedar Rapids for over a century, and now that rich history is on display for the general public to see.
The Cedar Rapids Kernels recently completed a timeline of professional baseball in the city, complete with photos, uniforms, posters, and other Cedar Rapids baseball memorabilia from the past 121 years. The project was completed on March 19 and spans the entire suite level of the stadium.
Kernels receptionist Marcia Moran got the idea for the exhibit when she traveled to Peoria. The Chiefs had a poster timeline of their history and Moran thought it would be a good idea for Cedar Rapids to do something similar.
Plans for the timeline started to be discussed in 2009 and the organization began gathering information in October 2010. Much of the research was done thanks to The History Center, the Cedar Rapids public library, and the Kernels own personal archives.
The exhibit is open to the general public Monday through Friday from 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Fans also have the opportunity to sign up for a stadium tour either by appointment or during a Kernels game before the third inning.
The Kernels also welcome anyone who has historical items they would like to loan or donate to the display.
