Former Cedar Rapids Kernels outfielder Byron Buxton was selected Wednesday to participate in the 2013 All-Star Futures Game, Sunday, July 14 at Citi Field in New York.
The Futures Game features top minor-league prospects in baseball and is held annually in conjunction with the Major League All-Star Game.
Buxton hit .341 in 68 games this season for the Kernels, with 15 doubles, 10 triples, eight home runs and 55 RBIs. He also stole 32 games before being promoted over the weekend to high-Class A Fort Myers.
The other player from the Minnesota Twins system to participate in the Futures Game is third baseman Miguel Sano, who is with Double-A New Britain.
