Jul. 14, 2013 6:41 pm
Former Cedar Rapids Kernels outfielder Byron Buxton was 0-for-2 with a pair of strikeouts in Sunday's All-Star Futures Game at Citi Field in New York.
Buxton, 19, did not start, coming into the game for the United States team midway through for starting center fielder Billy Hamilton of the Cincinnati Reds organization. He struck out swinging at a 3-2 pitch from Rafael De Paula of the New York Yankees in his first at-bat.
In his next one, he was struck out by Miguel Almonte of the Kansas City Royals.
The United States team beat the World team, 4-2, thanks to a go-ahead two-run home run from Matt Davidson of the Arizona Diamondbacks organization. Miguel Sano was the other Minnesota Twins' prospect playing in the game.
He went 0-for-2 with a walk and hit by pitch.
