Berrios strong in Kernels' 6-0 victory at Kane County

GENEVA, Ill. - Jose Berrios and Brian Gilbert combined on a two-hit shutout that led the Cedar Rapids Kernels to a 6-0 victory over Kane County on Saturday night before 11,979 fans at Fifth Third Bank Ballpark.
Berrios (7-5) threw the first 7 1/3 innings, allowing just two hits and a walk, striking out seven. Gilbert finished up the gem.
The Kernels (71-45 overall) scored four times in the fourth inning for all the runs they needed. Joel Licon had a two-run double in the inning, which also contained three Kane County errors.
Licon, Bo Altobelli and Jonathan Murphy had two hits apiece for Cedar Rapids, which extended its second-half lead in the Midwest League's Western Division to 1 1/2 games over second-place Quad Cities. The Kernels, who have won four in a row, are 31-17 in the second half.
The teams play again Sunday afternoon.
