Bad 2nd period dooms RoughRiders

The Des Moines Buccaneers scored four unanswered goals in the second period en route to a 6-2 win over the Cedar Rapids RoughRiders on Tuesday night in Urbandale.
Cole Bruns made his first start in net for the Riders, stopping 25 of 31 shots. Cal Dekowski's power-play goal four minutes into the second for Des Moines was followed three minutes later by Gasper Kopitar's short-handed goal. Dekowski and Andrew Miller scored again before period's end for a 5-1 lead.
Cason Hohmann and Andy Simpson scored goals for Cedar Rapids (22-7-4, 48 points). The Riders are four points behind Green Bay for first place in the USHL's Eastern Conference.
