Outlook: The bulk of this team won Pioneer League championship last season for Orem ... First six picks by parent Angels in last year's draft are here: outfielders Grichuk (1st round, 24th overall) and Trout (1st round, 25th round) and pitchers Skaggs (compensation, 40th overall), Richards (compensation, 42nd overall), Kehrer (compensation, 48th overall) and Corbin (2nd round) ... Trout hit .360 last season for AZL Angels, ending the season with Cedar Rapids. Grichuk hit .322 with seven home runs for AZL Angels. Ramirez hit .376 for Orem. Jimenez led Pioneer League in homers, doubles and extra-base hits in 2008 but sat out last season after surgery to repair torn labrum ... Haerther's father was born and raised in Cedar Rapids and his grandmother lives here ... Richards went 3-1 with a 1.53 ERA last season at Orem. He was promoted to Cedar Rapids at the end of the season but did not pitch because of an arm injury ... Martinez had 92 strikeouts in 60 innings for DSL Angels ... Carpenter led Orem with eight saves.
Manager's thoughts: “The biggest thing is don't believe the hype. This is their first (full) year playing. Everybody is always rated a lot higher before they play their first full season. But that being said, it is an exciting group. There are some talented players. It's fun. I'd much rather have the high draft guys, even though it means zero once they get out here. But it's neat; we love having those kind of guys. We can't wait to get it going.”
