The day will never be forgotten.
On Sept. 11, Veterans Memorial Stadium will serve as the gathering place for citizens to remember the past, reflect on the present, and respect those serving for the future.
The stadium will host a 9/11 remembrance called "Remember, Reflect, Respect" to pay tribute to the lives lost on the 10-year anniversary of the American tragedy. The event begins at 2 p.m. and is free and open to the public.
Presented by the Inter-Religious Council of Linn County and Cedar Rapids Police & Fire, attendees will have the opportunity to hear inspirational words from local clergy and honor police officers and firefighters who faithfully serve the community.
There will be four moments of silence - one for each airplane that crashed on that tragic day. Area firefighters will honor the firefighters who lost their lives that day with a traditional bell ceremony, while police officers will perform a gun salute to remember their fallen colleagues.
At the end of the tribute, all in attendance will be invited onto the field for a final prayer for the future of peace.
