CLINTON - The Cedar Rapids Kernels scored four go-ahead runs in the seventh inning and beat back the Clinton LumberKings, 6-2, Friday night in Midwest League baseball at Ashford University Stadium.
Clinton tied the game in the bottom of the sixth inning against Kernels starting pitcher Domenick Carlini, only to see C.R. come right back. A two-run, two-out single by Christian Cavaness gave the Kernels a 4-2 lead, then Travis Blankenhorn followed with a two-run double.
Carlini got a no-decision, though he gave up just three hits and two runs in 5 2/3 innings, striking out seven. Ryan Mason and Colton Davis followed with 3 1/3 scoreless relief innings, with Mason (1-1) picking up his first Kernels win.
Offensviely, Lewin Diaz and Hank Morrison hit home runs for Cedar Rapids. Cavaness, Diaz and Morrison had two hits apiece.
The teams play again Saturday night at 6:35. The Kernels are 43-36 overall and 4-6 in the second half.
