3 Kernels have 'Best Tools' in Midwest League

Aug. 13, 2009 2:03 pm
Pitching and defense have been the two biggest reasons why the 2009 Cedar Rapids Kernels have clinched a playoff spot, with Baseball America honoring the latter in its latest magazine issue.
Three Kernels have been selected by BA as being the best defensively at their respective positions in the Midwest League this season.
Anel De Los Santos, on the disabled list right now, was named by BA as the best defensive catcher in the league. Alexi Amarista was named the best defensive second baseman and Tyson Auer the top defensive outfielder.
Baseball America polls managers in each minor league to select players with the best offensive and defensive "tools" in each league.
