Marion’s boys’ basketball team hasn’t faced many junk defenses this season, but Center Point-Urbana started Tuesday night’s game with a box-and-one: four defenders in a zone and another face guarding Marion all-state guard Brayson Laube. The Wolves laid waste to that D, getting 14 first-quarter points from Myles Davis in a 75-57 win.
Girls’ basketball: Vinton-Shellsburg collects 16 steals, owns the boards late and is the quicker team to the ball throughout a 54-45 win over Marion.

Cedar Rapids Kennedy’s boys’ basketball team returned a pair of all-state guards this season. But an 82-37 win Tuesday night over Marion proved these Cougars have a lot more players to go with Kenzie Reed and Colby Dolphin.

The Cougars claimed 10 weights and defeated Iowa City Liberty, 54-21, in a boys wrestling dual Thursday night at Kennedy. Liberty won the girls’ dual, 62-18.
