High school softball notes: With 10 wins in their last 11 games, the Beckman Blazers are closing in on a River Valley Conference North Division softball title.
North Linn has won 13 straight games and remains a staple in the Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association Class 1A rankings. The Lynx are 17-2 and ranked No. 7, entering Week 6 of the season.

Marion’s Austin Goodrich produced a game-winning hit for a 4-3 victory in Game 1. He worked two perfect innings of relief in the 5-3 win in Game 2, sweeping Benton Community Monday at Les Hipple Athletic Complex.
Iowa City High started the season as the preseason No. 1. The Little Hawks faced a tough early schedule that dropped them to No. 5. This week, they climbed two spots to third in Class 4A.
Benton Community visits Marion in a Wamac Conference clash. Sigourney comes to North Linn for a battle of ranked Class 1A teams, Dyersville Beckman heads to Cascade in one of Iowa’s top high school baseball rivalries and more games to watch in Week 5.
Marion is a work in progress, according to head coach Steve Fish. The Wolves are 7-2 and lead the Wamac Conference East Division. They are third in the latest Iowa High School Baseball Coaches Association poll.
Cedar Rapids Prairie won its first eight games and climbed to fourth in Class 4A, six spots better than the preseason poll. Iowa City High, Marion, Cedar Rapids Xavier, Clear Creek Amana and North Linn are among other area ranked teams.

Cedar Rapids Xavier junior Caleb Loffswold threw 2 2/3 scoreless innings and earned the save in the Saints’ 5-2 win over Class 3A No. 3 Marion on Thursday at Les Hipple Athletic Complex.
Defenseman Nolan Orzeck began his professional hockey career in the 2022-23 season with the ECHL’s Iowa Heartlanders. After almost three years in Texas and Finland, the 24-year-old Calgary native is back in the Corridor.
High school football teams play in the Iowa High School Athletic Association playoffs. All seven classes will compete in the Round of 16 for a spot in the state quarterfinals.
