Two of the world’s top competitors will battle in the main event of FloWrestling Night In America Wednesday night at Xtream Arena in Coralville.
Spencer Lee’s dominance highlighted second-ranked Iowa’s opening day at the NCAA Division I Wrestling Championships, moving five into the quarterfinals with all 10 left in the tournament. Iowa State’s David Carr and Marcus Coleman advanced. UNI’s Parker Keckeisen moved into the quarterfinals.
Iowa State advanced six to the semifinals of the Big 12 Wrestling Championships Saturday in Tulsa, Okla. The Cyclones had 52.5 points, trailing leader Missouri and second-place Oklahoma State. UNI was in sixth with 32.5 and three semifinalists.
Iowa State finished third last season after racking up plenty of dual meet wins that didn’t translate into tournament success. Cyclones head coach Kevin Dresser expects that to change Saturday and Sunday at the Big 12 Championships and beyond.
Iowa State wrestler Marcus Coleman attained All-America honors for the first time last season. He’s a four-time NCAA qualifier and currently ranked fourth nationally at 184 pounds. And both he and Coach Kevin Dresser believe the best is yet to come as his final collegiate season winds toward March.

Second-ranked Iowa and No. 7 Iowa State split all 10 matches, but Spencer Lee made his debut with a major decision, Real Woods also debuted with a win, Cobe Siebrecht and Nelson Brands added bonus points and heavyweight Tony Cassioppi capped the 18-15 dual victory.
Iowa State’s David Carr suffered disappointment but responded for his second straight All-America finish and was one of three Cyclone placewinners.
