Willems seeking re-election in House 29

LISBON – Rep. Nate Willems, D-Lisbon, is seeking re-election to in Iowa House 29, in eastern Linn and Johnson counties.
“While our economy is showing signs of recovery, I know many families are still struggling to make ends meet and that's why I've worked to retain jobs, prevent cuts to education and look out for Iowans who are most vulnerable in today's economy,” said Willems, who was elected in 2008. “We must continue our efforts to create good-paying jobs, balance the budget, ensure our kids get a world class education and expand access to quality health care.”
Willems is vice chair of the Labor Committee and is also a member of the Education, Judiciary, State Government and Ways & Means committees. He is also a member of the Justice Systems Appropriations Subcommittee.
Willems said he's proud of his record of helping working families by helping to pass legislation to take away insurance companies' incentive to deny workmen's compensation claims without good cause and to restore funding for legal aid to the needy. He also voted to increase education spending by $160 million and help keep tuition affordable at Kirkwood and our state universities, Willems said.
Willems is a graduate of the University of Iowa College of Law and is a self-employed attorney at Sole, McManus & Willems, P.C., practicing primarily in the areas of labor and employment law. He and his wife, Maggie, have been married for five years and have two daughters.
