Rathje enters 2nd District GOP primary race

Jan. 5, 2010 7:47 am
Cedar Rapids business owner, Steve Rathje has formally entered the race for the Republican nomination for the U.S. House 2
nd
District seat.
Rathje joins Marion businessman Chris Reed and 2008 GOP nominee Mariannette Miller-Meeks in the race for the nomination to challenge Democrat Rep. Dave Loebsack of Mount Vernon.
Rathje describes himself as a “common sense conservative” committed to putting not only Iowans, but all Americans back to work with a plan that creates more than 6 million jobs, averaging $50,000 per year. A plan that stimulates the economy with nearly $800 billion, one that empowers new business with much needed startup capital, empowers college graduates to pay down or pay off daunting college debt within three years, offers a constitutionally based health-care/health insurance alternative that saves money, promotes competition and embraces personal responsibility.
“Jobs create an economy, an economy creates stability, stability creates economic might and economic might creates national security,” according to Rathje.
Rathje formed International Procurement Services, Inc., and the Genesis Group in 1992. He claims to have successfully negotiated the return of good paying manufacturing jobs from countries like China, Taiwan, Mexico, Europe and Canada.
