Iowa City officials want the U.S. Postal Service to continue to have a presence near downtown.
USPS officials this summer said they planned to move out of the office at 400 S. Clinton St., a block south of downtown, but wanted stay in the same area.
Then, in October, the agency announced it hoped to relocate to one of two spots on the southeast side of town. Its top choice is east of the Kmart in Pepperwood Plaza off Highway 6. The other is nearby at 1925 Boyrum St.
The City Council will vote on a resolution Nov. 12 encouraging the USPS to consider sites closer to downtown. If one cannot be secured for retail operations, the resolution asks that satellite locations in downtown Iowa City be considered.
