The Cedar Rapids City Council on Tuesday agreed to $1.9 million in public incentives for a $20 million Alro Steel Corp. regional distribution facility, which is expected to create 40 jobs. The council also approved development agreements for the nearly $109.5 million FedEx warehouse and for the $32.6 million Terex site redevelopment.
After his narrow loss on Election Day Nov. 2, Mayor Brad Hart has endorsed Women Lead Change Chief Executive Officer Tiffany O’Donnell to assume the city’s top elected role. O’Donnell faces Amara Andrews in the Nov. 30 runoff.
Eric Bradley, an environmental health manager at Scott County Public Health, will take on a new role at Linn County Public Health as the deputy director later this month.
The Iowa City Planning and Zoning Commission unanimously supported a proposal to establish a self-supported municipal improvement district in the south side of the city.

Completion of the bridge as part of the ConnectCR project, which also will revitalize Cedar Lake and bring new amenities, is slated for 2024. Once finished, it will be named the Alliant Energy LightLine.

TrueNorth employee Amara Andrews and Women Lead Change Chief Executive Officer Tiffany O’Donnell emerged Tuesday as the top two vote getters in a four-way race for Cedar Rapids mayor, outright defeating incumbent Brad Hart.
County auditors said the surge in early voting was due to hotly-contested races and because auditors tried new things, such as printing absentee ballot request forms in the Penny Saver and hosting a “Friday Night Lights” polling site at a Solon football game.
The polls are open from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday as voters cast their ballots in Iowa’s city and school board elections.
The updated proposal coming before the commission on Thursday is scaled back from previous plans and devotes nearly three times more land to the park.
The dispute started when Unique Homes filed a lawsuit against Andrews in 2014 over a single-family home they had entered a contract with the company to build in Mahomet, Ill.
