North Liberty this week became the latest local government to support a new facility that houses several agencies that serve people in need.
The City Council on Tuesday pledged $10,000 to the 1105 Project. 1105 is a partnership between the Domestic Violence Intervention Program, the National Alliance on Mental Illness, the Free Lunch Program and the Crisis Center of Johnson County to renovate a building at 1105 Gilbert Ct. in Iowa City.
The four nonprofit organizations moved into the building at the start of the year but still must pay off the loan for the $1.25 million project.
Coralville has committed $50,000, and Iowa City pledged to give up to $100,000 if the organizations can raise $200,000 by April 14, according to a news release.
Johnson County sold the property, which it owned, for $1 so the agencies could relocate there.
As of February 17, the project needed about $150,000 to receive Iowa City's full $100,000 gift.
