‘No Party’ gains in voter registration

More than 9,000 Iowa voters have changed their party registration from Democratic to No Party, the Iowa Secretary of State's Office reports.
Secretary of State Michael Mauro said 9,222 Democrats have changed their party affiliation to No Party in the past year.
In the same time, 8,292 No Party voters changed to Republican and 4,896 Democrats shifted to the Republican Party, he said.
Overall, there are 2,090,309 Iowans registered to vote in the June 8 primary election. That includes 772,725 No Party, 710,017 Democrats and 607567 Republicans.

No Party showed the largest gain in voters over the past 12 month – 37,931, Mauro said. Democrats gain 18,254 and Republicans 17,759.
He also reported: No Party to Democrat – 7,112; Republican to Democrat – 1,897; and Republican to No Party – 7,156.
In order to participate in Iowa's Primary Election on June 8, eligible voters will need to register either as a Democrat or as a Republican.
