NEWTON -- Jasper County Habitat for Humanity (JCHFH) and Iowa Speedway jointly announced a new program that rewards volunteers for sharing a work day with JCHFH. Volunteers may sign up to work a day at either of the current home builds and receive a complimentary ticket to the Friday night, July 30
th
USAR Pro Cup Series stock car race at Iowa Speedway.
The first house will be a “Blitz Build” that will run concurrently with the Jasper County Fair in Mineral Springs Park in Colfax from July 16
th
to 22
nd
. This house will be a fast-track build where JCHFH volunteers will put up the basics such as the frame, floors, roof, shingles and siding in just a week. The house will then be moved to a lot in Baxter and completed there. The goal is to draw the attention and interest of people attending the Fair. The second house will be a regular build, with most of the work done on Saturdays for approximately 25 weeks. That house will be built in Mingo.
“To accomplish both of these builds, the JCHFH needs volunteers of all skill levels to keep things on schedule,” said Project Manager Doug Garrett. “We hope that the ‘Give A Day, Get A Ticket' program will be an enticement that everyone will want to take advantage of.”
Interested parties may contact Doug Garrett at 515-250-8857, or at jasperiahabitat@aol.com, with questions or to volunteer.
