CEDAR RAPIDS — After advancing to a third round in the popular television game show “Family Feud,” Cedar Rapids City Council member Pat Loeffler and his family lost in the episode that aired Thursday night.
They lost to the Sanders’ family from Dayton, Ohio, won with nearly 500 points.
The show pits five members of one family against five members of another family. Each family competes to guess the most popular answers to questions asked the audience, winning cash and prizes as they go.
In total, Loeffler and his family won $20,725 in the two episodes that aired Tuesday and Wednesday. The episodes were filmed in May.
The Sanders’ family “stole” points to win the game during the final question.
Comedian Steve Harvey, the host, asked the contestants to answer the question: When you hear something moving in your attic, worst case scenario, it’s what?
The Sanders’ family answered with the roof falling in. The answer “house collapsing” earned two points, enough to steal points the Loefflers had racked up.
Pat Loeffler’s wife, Kymm, answered “window crashing.” She told those at Thursday’s watch party at Double Z Bar and Grill that the producer said if they’d said “roof” instead, the Loefflers would have won.
Pat Loeffler said it took 6.5 hours to film the three episodes, so the family was somewhat ready to be done by the third show.
The families they met during the competition were “top notch,” he said. Contestants built relationships while staying at hotels and grabbing lunches together during filming in the Atlanta metro area.
“They were such good people, and it was at a point where I’d love to continue on it and keep winning, but we wanted them to win money, too,” he said.
Two of the Loeffler children, Bri and Jordan, live in Cedar Rapids, while Alyssa lives and works in Dallas as a chef, Loeffler said. The show, he said, prompted the family to make it more of a priority to get together.
“We’re fortunate,” Loeffler said. “We were blessed. I have such a great family, and it brought us all back together.”
