Libertarian candidate to challenge Jacoby

Jun. 29, 2010 12:48 pm
Dustin Krutsinger, a third-year medical student in Coralville, plans to challenge Rep. Dave Jacoby, D-Coralville, in House District 30, which includes Coralville, North Liberty, Tiffin, Iowa City, and Penn Township.
Krutsinger, who worked as a registered nurse in surgical intensive care at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics for seven years, is running because he's “upset about the out of control spending and assaults on personal liberty coming out of Washington.”
Krutsinger, a lifelong Iowan, believes the federal government has overstepped its constitutional authority. It's up to states to rein it in, he said.
“If the Iowa Legislature retakes authority usurped by the federal government, you and your neighbors will have much more impact on the regulations, laws, taxes, etc imposed on Iowans,” Krutsinger said.
Krutsinger and his wife, Derricca, also a RN, have one daughter.
They have utilized their medical training to serve those in need in Peru, South Africa, Namibia, Zambia and Afghanistan in 2009. After medical school, they plan on serving the needy overseas full-time using their medical skills to serve God by serving those who lack access or resources for basic and emergency medical care.
