District Republican Ben Lange has been added to the National Republican Congressional Committee's On the Radar list of candidates.
It's the first step in the NRCC's Young Guns program that is dedicated to electing open-seat and challenger candidates. Lange, an Independence attorney, is challenging Democrat Rep. Bruce Braley, a Waterloo attorney who is seeking a third term.
By achieving On the Radar status, Lange has proven his ability to build a successful campaign structure and achieve important fundraising goals.
Although national political odds-makers favor Braley, who has a 6-to-1 cash on hand advantage over Lange, TheIowaRepublican.com's Craig Robinson called Lange the “candidate best positioned” heading into the November election.
Robinson cited Lange's lack of debt and recent fundraising. However, in the April through June quarter, Braley raised $200,737, according to Federal Elections Commission reports. Lange raised $133,809. Braley has $632,385 cash on hand to Lange's $110,297.
