Janelle Rettig was elected chairwoman of the Johnson County Board of Supervisors Wednesday.
The board makes the selection itself and rotates the position annually among its five members , and it was Rettig's turn to take the gavel.
Rettig, a Democrat from Iowa City, has been a county supervisor since October 2009, when she was appointed to fill an open seat. She won a special election in early 2010 and later that year was elected to a full four-year term.
Supervisor Terrence Neuzil, a Democrat from Iowa City, was elected vice chairman.
