Iowa GOP conventions begin Saturday

Over the next two weekends, Iowa Republicans will attend their district conventions. Districts 2, 3 and 5 conventions will be Saturday and Districts 1 and 4 will be May 1.

Delegates will continue crafting the 2010 Iowa GOP platform – a statement of the party's political beliefs. They'll also hear from local and statewide Republican candidates seeking support in the June 8 GOP primary election.

Iowa GOP Chairman Matt Strawn, along with Co-Chair Jim Kurtenbach, Agriculture Secretary Bill Northey, State Auditor David Vaudt and Attorney General candidate Brenna Findley, will be traveling together to the district conventions.

The schedule is:

April 24

District 2 -- 10 a.m., Fairfield Middle School, 404 W. Filmore Ave., Fairfield

District 3 -- 10 a.m., Grinnell Middle School, 132 East St., Grinnell

District 5 – 10 a.m., Sioux Central High School, 4440 U.S. Highway 71, Sioux Rapids

May 1

District 1 -- 10 a.m., Grand River Center, 500 Bell Ave., Dubuque

District 4 -- Iowa Falls-Alden Community High School, 1903 N. Taylor Avenue, Iowa Falls
