Iowa City approves budget

IOWA CITY – The City Council Tuesday night unanimously approved a budget for the fiscal year that starts July 1.
The budget calls for $52.3 million in general fund expenditures in fiscal 2015, down slightly from $52.8 million this year.
The tax rate will decrease to $16.71 per $1,000 of taxable value, compared with this year's $16.81.
With the increase in the state-set rollback, which is the percentage of a residential property's value that is taxed, the owner of a $100,000 home will pay $909 in city taxes, up $21 from this year.
The budget also includes the
