DES MOINES -- An inmate has died of what is believed to be cardiac arrest at the Iowa Medical and Classification Center in Oakdale.
Corrections officials said Jeffrey Mark Clark, 51, was found unresponsive and sitting on the floor in a cell at 9:24 a.m. Sunday.
Emergency medical procedures, including CPR, were implemented immediately, officials said. Clark was taken to the University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics, where he was pronounced dead at 10:06 a.m.
An autopsy and toxicology tests have been ordered to confirm the cause of death.
Clark was serving a five-year sentence from Dickinson County for third-offense operating while intoxicated, carrying weapons and impersonating a public official. Clark's sentence began in August 2009.
