Jul. 13, 2009 10:19 am
Danny Homan has been elected to another term as president of AFSCME Council 61, a union representing nearly 40,000 public and private sector employees in Iowa.
Homan, XX, was re-elected without opposition for the second time. He has been an AFSCME member since 1985, a year after going to work as a residential treatment adviser in Sioux City, his hometown. He went to work for the union in 1987 as a political organizer and worked as a union representative for 17 years before being elected president in 2005.
Also re-elected at the union's biennial meeting July 11-12 were Vice President Susan Baker, a drafter at UNI, and Secretary-Treasurer Kay Gill.
AFSCME Council 61 represents law enforcement and correctional officers, home health care and child care providers, firefighters and emergency responders, mental health workers, professional school staff and others.
