Grassley still considered 'safe' for re-election -- or is he?

Jun. 24, 2010 12:21 pm
UPDATED:
Iowa Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley remains “safe” in his bid for re-election, according to the Rothenberg Report's latest Senate rankings.
Despite a challenge from Democrat Roxanne Conlin, the Rothenberg Report lists Grassley in the “Safe Republican” group.
However, the Cook Political Report moved the Grassley-Conlin match-up from "Solid Republican" to "likelyRepublian" June 24.
Although Republicans are still short of the 10-seat gain they would need to flip the Senate in November, Rothenberg expects the GOP to pick up a net of five to seven seats. Additional Democratic losses would depend on whether Washington, Wisconsin and California become more competitive, according to the report. This means Democrats would retain control of the Senate, but at a dramatically reduced level.
