WASHINGTON - Sen. Chuck Grassley said Wednesday, yet again, that he is running for re-election to a sixth term.
Grassley was asked about a comment by Iowa State Sen. Matt McCoy, D-Des Moines, that Grassley instead planned to seek the Republican nomination for governor to challenge Democratic Gov. Chet Culver.
"I need to inform Senator McCoy - and he's a friend so I don't say this in a denigrating way - he ought to keep track of the number of fundraisers I've had for re-election to the United States Senate," Grassley told Iowa reporters.
"Since the November election, I've had 12 fundraisers.
"So I wouldn't be raising money for the Senate because, under Iowa law, you can't spend it in the race for governor."
Grassley, 75, told The Gazette days after he was elected in 2004 that he was a candidate for re-election in 2010 and that he intended to serve in the Senate as long as the voters and his health permitted him to do so.
