A signature drive Saturday aimed at banning automated traffic surveillance in Iowa City will feature a drone.
The Stop Big Brother organization is trying to get enough signatures on a petition to force the City Council to either adopt an ordinance outlawing red-light and speed cameras and drones or to send the matter to voters to decide.
They need the signatures of 2.500 registered Iowa City voters. On Monday, the city clerk said their initial effort produced only 2,106 valid signatures. They have about two weeks to get more.
The group will be at College Green Park from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. April 20 to collect signatures. Organizer Aleksey Gurtovoy said they will fly a drone at the event.
