Democrats sweep Johnson County mock election

Jul. 30, 2010 12:54 pm
Democratic candidates swept voting in a mock election at the Johnson County Fair, but the top-of-the ticket candidates didn't fare as well as the others.
Gov. Chet Culver scored 58 percent to former Gov. Terry Branstad's 31 percent in the mock election conducted by the County Auditor's Office. Roxanne Conlin topped Sen. Chuck Grassley 54 percent to 39 percent. A total of 496 people voted. Six years ago, Grassley received 51 percent of the votes.
However, down-ballot Democrats had more impressive margins. Attorney General Tom Miller took 70 percent of the vote to challenger Brenna Findley's 30 percent. Incumbents Rep. Dave Loebsack and Treasurer Michael Fitzgerald also were over 60 percent as were Democratic challengers Jon Murphy and Francis Thicke.
