Coralville wants its residents to use less water.
The city's water plant superintendent, Kevin Callahan, in a news release Thursday asked water customers to stop watering lawns except on newly seeded or sodded areas and to limit watering plants.
The city wants to reduce water demand as a result of the hot, dry weather Iowa has been experiencing, which is expected to continue in the coming days.
Voluntary participation in reducing water demand may help avoid mandatory water restrictions, according to the release.
