CEDAR RAPIDS — Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation will seek feedback on its therapeutic recreation programming at a Wednesday open house.
The open house will run from 4:30 to 6 p.m. Wednesday in the Five Seasons Conference Room at the City Services Center, 500 15th Ave. SW. The event is open to the public and will take place in a drop-in format, per a city news release.
Staff will be on-site during that time to answer questions and receive input on the city’s therapeutic recreation programs, which aim to provide inclusive recreational opportunities for all citizens regardless of age or ability.
Therapeutic rec programs offered by Cedar Rapids this year include a trip to the Field of Dreams in Dyersville, therapeutic rec swim lessons, bingo night, and an end of summer pool party.
“This is an opportunity for us to hear directly from the people who are most impacted by our programs,” Parks and Recreation Director Carrie Mardorf said in the release. “We want to make sure our programs are accessible, inclusive, and continue to meet the evolving needs of our community.”
Past participants, parents, caretakers and representatives from organizations that support individuals with disabilities are especially encouraged to attend, although the event is open to all members of the public.
The feedback gathered from attendees will be used to shape the future direction of the department’s therapeutic programming.
