Here are some legislative items of interest for Monday, April 20:
DAY 100: Tuesday marks the last day that state lawmakers are scheduled to receive daily expense money. The Iowa Code provides House and Senate members to receive per-diem expenses for 110 days during an odd-numbered year's legislative session, but leaders agreed to cut short the payments by 10 days this year to save money. Currently, state lawmakers receive daily expense money of $130; the amount is $97.50 per day for those residing in Polk County. Since the code was not changed, any legislator could request to receive the additional 10 days worth of expense reimbursements if they so chose.
QUOTE OF THE DAY: “I thought it was sine die, shoot.” Sen. Nancy Boettger, R-Harlan, during a Senate Rules & Administration Committee discussion of a resolution marking the Clay County town of Everly's quasquicentennial observance. The sine die resolution marks the session-ending adjournment.
