A rally with a theme based on the novel “1984” will be held in Iowa City Aug. 4 to protest government surveillance.
The Iowa chapter of the Restore the Fourth movement is organizing the event, scheduled for noon to 2 p.m. on the Pedestrian Mall. The focus will be on National Security Agency surveillance programs that have stirred worldwide controversy this summer.
The Iowa City event is part of a national
“1984 Day” inspired by the classic George Orwell novel on surveillance in a totalitarian state.
