Linn-Mar’s boys’ basketball team beat West Des Moines Dowling in a Class 4A substate final this past week, qualifying for the state tournament for the first time since 2012, which was the final year of a nine-year run. The Lions take a 15-game win streak and No. 2 ranking and seeding to Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines.
Cedar Rapids Xavier senior Jean Ngoma was the state runner-up at 215 pounds in Class 3A, earning his second state medal and posting a 38-1 record. he was voted All-Metro Athlete of the Year for boys’ wrestling.

The West Michigan Whitecaps had the best overall record in minor league baseball after the regular season. The Caps won all four playoff games, including 3-1 Tuesday night over the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium to win the 2025 Midwest League championship. West Michigan finished 96-39 overall, playoffs included.
