The level of top girls’ golfers could be at an all-time high in the Metro. Six top-10 individuals in Classes 3A and 4A and three teams ranked in the top five for scoring through all classes were part of the annual CRANDIC field Wednesday at Gardner Golf Course.
Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Addie Berg fired a 2-over 74 to repeat as medalist at the CRANDIC meet Wednesday at Gardner Golf course. Linn-Mar claimed consecutive crowns at the event, winning the team race with 338.

Corey Brinkmeyer returns as Linn-Mar boys’ soccer coach this season after stepping away in 2019. During his first tenure (2001-2019), he amassed nearly 200 wins, qualified for the state tournament six times and won a Class 3A state title in 2015.

Linn-Mar sophomore Morgan Rupp enters the spring as one of the top returners in Class 4A, capping last season with a fifth-place state finish. She is ranked fourth by Bound to start the season and is one of seven Mississippi Valley Conference golfers in the top 10 of 4A.

A couple of guys intended to play major roles on this season’s Cedar Rapids Xavier boys basketball team didn’t play Friday night due to injuries. The Saints, who will be a main contender for the Class 3A state championship when healthy, found a way to get past scrappy Cedar Rapids Washington, 67-57.
