A look at Tuesday’s 5A, 4A and 3A Iowa high school softball area regional finals. Twelve games contain area teams.

Iowa City West scored three times in the bottom of the first inning of a Class 4A substate opener Saturday afternoon. But Linn-Mar scored the final seven runs, all in their final three at-bats, to pick up a 7-3 victory.

Postseason play will be at full throttle, starting Friday. Class 4A and 3A opens substate play. Cedar Rapids Prairie, Iowa City High and Iowa City Liberty are all No. 1 seeds in 4A. Marion is a top seed in 3A.

Postseason starts up for Class 3A and 4A and continues for 1A and 2A. Cedar Rapids Kennedy and Dubuque Wahlert play in a key Mississippi Valley Conference doubleheader. Independence and West Delaware are scheduled to play three times this week. Here are our final 5 Games to Watch.

Softball notes: Tracking the conference softball races, and saluting the champions. The MVC Mississippi Division race should become more clear tonight. Meanwhile, Lisbon, Williamsburg, Mount Vernon and Sigourney have extended lengthy title strings.

Norway has a storied baseball tradition that has yielded Major League Baseball players and was even depicted in the 2007 film, “The Final Season.” Iowa City Liberty and Linn-Mar played a non-conference varsity game at the hallowed field Tuesday night.
