Philip Jacobs wants to be his best but he is also focused on Linn-Mar’s team success. He’s willing to do whatever helps the team, moving up to 190 pounds. Jacobs went 5-0 and host Linn-Mar claimed the team title Saturday at the Lions Duals.
The Lions have been a fixture at the third-year boys basketball showcase, which features some of the premier teams from central and Eastern Iowa for intriguing non-conference matchups. Over the past two editions, Linn-Mar suffered narrow defeats to West Des Moines Valley and Ankeny.

The Dyersville Beckman boys basketball team has had more than its first share of injuries and illness this season. The illness belonged to head coach Michael Molony this time, though he toughed out the flu and led his Blazers past Alburnett in a Class 2A district semifinal, 59-33.
Cedar Rapids Prairie’s Louden Bloxham suffered a leg injury that kept him off the mat up to a month of the state tournament. He turned the hurt into hardware with a win in the 190-pound quarterfinal of the Class 3A state wrestling tournament Thursday at Casey’s Center ini Des Moines.
