Girls’ track and field: Linn-Mar’s Abby Mecklenburg became the first Iowa girl to hit 20 feet in the long jump (unofficially) earlier this spring. The reigning Class 4A state champion pursues Drake and state-meet records, plus the all-time Iowa best.

Coe’s Bryce Parke posted three straight victories to reach the 133-pound final at the NCAA Division III Wrestling Championships on Saturday in Providence, R.I. He earned a runner-up finish and was one of four Kohawk All-Americans this year, including his brother, Brayden, who placed fifth at 125.

Two-time defending champion West Des Moines Valley tied this Class 4A state tournament semifinal Wednesday night against Linn-Mar with a putback at the buzzer, then won it in overtime, 58-56, on a made shot again at the buzzer.
