Engineers and the county’s emergency managers will be running tests from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Wednesday. “Please disregard any audible alerts or messages heard during this period,” emergency mangers advised in a news release.
“Technicians are currently working to resolve the issue with the siren vendor,” Linn County Emergency Management said in a statement. “There is no current threat to public safety at this time.”
Linn County Sustainability is about halfway through a pilot program with the Linn County Emergency Management Agency and four community organizations to create an All-Hazards Emergency Plan Template — an effort to help community groups plan for disasters before they strike.
For the past two years, Linn County has been training a volunteer Community Emergency Response Team, or CERT. The volunteers will have the skills needed for the organization and operation of an emergency response to disasters.
At 8:45 a.m. on the first Wednesday of every month, the Linn County Emergency Management Agency sets off its outdoor warning sirens for testing. A gravely computer-generated voice lets listeners know that a test is being conducted and they’re free to go about their days.
