After sponsoring a contest to find a replacement name for A Street between 16th and 15th Avenue SW, the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library will ask the Cedar Rapids City Council to change the name to Inspiration Place.
“We have two contest winners-Julie Cross of Swisher, IA and Josh Hlibichuk of Cedar Rapids. One suggested Inspiration Boulevard and the other suggested Inspiration Street. The new expanded museum is definitely a place for awe and inspiration,” said President/CEO Gail Naughton.
More than 100 entries were received for the contest that began in August. The name suggestion had to be in English and could not duplicate the spelling or phonetic sound of any existing street name within the greater Cedar Rapids area. Each winner will receive a one-year family membership to the museum and library, along with a $100 Monumental Move gift package.
“There is a formal city process that will take a few months before we receive official approval. Once that is completed, the new street signs will go up,” she added.
The expanded National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library is expected to open during the summer of 2012.
