United Way of East Central Iowa goes social for campaign kick-off

United Way of East Central Iowa kicked off its annual campaign this week. No, you didn't miss a big event. United Way kicked it off a bit differently this year.

“This year's campaign chair Tim Kintner – CEO of Bankers Trust – recorded a video that we are distributing through social channels,'' United Way CEO and President Lois Buntz said. “With more and more people using Facebook, YouTube, Twitter and other social media, we are trying to adapt to the new world, too.”

Last year, United Way helped almost 100,000* people in a six-county area, consisting of Linn, Iowa, Benton, Jones, Cedar and Washington counties.

“Getting involved in United Way is easy, you can volunteer, donate and let your friends know about these opportunities.” Buntz said.

In addition to using social media, United Way assists companies in running workplace campaigns and hosts community events.
