“The Transformation of Kimberlee Rocca”

Tired of moving, and ready to get settled in? Bring the family over to Chait Galleries Downtown to erase memories of cardboard boxes and replace them with an eclectic sort of color and creativity.

Kimberlee Rocca is a familiar face in the Iowa City area. Graduating from the University of Iowa in 1991, she earned her BFA under Professor Chung Hi Choo in the Metal Smith program, as well as double Minors in Fiber Art and Design. However, that's not the extent of her experience. Over the years her she has acquired knowledge from the legendary Professor Virginia Meyers, which has helped her to wield her own style in foil imaging. That style has now transcended into another form of colorful creative expression: larger scale acrylic paintings on canvas.

Her experience with drafting and home-building can be noted in her newest body of work. “Splash I” and “Busy I & II” break the boundaries of her past work of exactitude and precision; the new work embodies fluidity and confidence. By over-thinning the acrylic paints and literally splashing it onto the canvas, she achieves an energetic and spontaneous composition. Kimberlee uses her nature of precision in a different way by understanding the fundamentals of the mediums at hand in order to break the rules to achieve a loose yet precise piece.

“My art reflects struggles and victories in my own life by use of abstract works and figures. I put to paper the very nature of the desire to discover and become who I am meant to be. The results are works filled with life, promise, hope, joy, strength and purpose. We are all here to help and encourage one another; my purpose is to do that through my art work”
