To bring awareness to the immense hunger in our area, St. Luke's Hospital is sponsoring a live event with Z102.9 to support the Freedom from Hunger food drive by filling a truck with non-perishable food items or accepting donations.
Make a Splash for Hunger will take place in the St. Luke's Birth Care parking lot on July 31 from 4 - 7 p.m. The first 150 people to drop off non-perishable food items or make a donation will receive a free St. Luke's beach towel! Types of non-perishable foods most needed include tuna, macaroni and cheese, instant potatoes, canned meat, pancake mix, peanut butter, jelly, canned fruit, pasta, and vegetables.
The need for food is great and any donation is appreciated! There are 54,270 area indi¬viduals who at one or more times in a typical week, are short of food.
St. Luke's employees are also participating internally in collecting food for HACAP. To encourage employees to donate -- the hospital is giving a prize to the top three de¬partments that collect the most food items.
All donations benefit the HACAP food reservoir and other food assistance programs in eastern Iowa.
