Spring break programs offered for kids in Cedar Rapids

CEDAR RAPIDS - The Cedar Rapids Parks & Recreation Department is offering several camp experiences at Ushers Ferry Historic Village and the Northwest Recreation Center during spring break. Camps take place March 13-16, unless otherwise noted. Here is a rundown:
l American Girl - For girls ages 6-12 who would like to learn about American girls throughout history - what they did for fun, what crafts they created, what goodies they made and ate and what was happening in their world. The camp meets at Ushers Ferry from 9 a.m. to noon for ages 9-12 and 9 to 10:30 a.m. for ages 6-8. Cost for the older kids is $88 for Cedar Rapids residents and $96 for others. Cost for the younger kids is $44 for residents and $51 for others or $12 per day for residents and $13 for others.
l Spring Sampler - For girls and boys ages 6-8 who would like to try a special sampling of some of the programs offered at Ushers Ferry, including 'Huckleberry Finn;” 'Food, Fire & Fun;” 'Zombies” and 'Old-fashioned Easter Eggs.” The camp meets from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Ushers Ferry. Cost is $44 for residents and $51 for others or $12 per day for residents and $13 for others.
l Think Safe Child Care Clinic - For ages 8-16, meets from 9 a.m. to noon March 14 only at Northwest Recreation Center. The course covers child development, infant and child care, behavior management, basic first aid, interviewing and marketing. Participants receive a baby-sitting care packet and manual. Cost is $30 for Cedar Rapids residents and $37 for others.
l Intro to Sports - For girls and boys ages 3-5 who are accompanied by an adult. The camp meets from 9 to 9:45 a.m. at Northwest Recreation Center. Parents partner with their child to practice skills and basic movements for a variety of sports. Cost is $32 for Cedar Rapids residents and $39 for others. Register by March 3.
l Sports Camp - For ages 6-10. The camp meets from 9 to 11 a.m. at Northwest Recreation Center. Campers will participate in soccer, basketball, running and tag games. Cost is $42 for Cedar Rapids residents and $49 for others. Register by March 3.
