Small space? No problem.

Small rooms can create big decor problems. They can feel cramped and uninviting, but with a few tricks, even the smallest spaces can give the illusion of a larger room.
Let there be light
Create the space's backdrop by starting with lighter color palettes such as whites, creams, grays or pale blues. While monochromatic color schemes provide the illusion of a light, airy space, layering lighter colors also helps create warmth. Drawn to darker colors? Keep them to accessories such as pillows, artwork and rugs - dark colors can make a small room look even smaller. Keep busy and bold patterns to an accent chair or pillow for some visual interest, but don't overpower the space.
windows and mirrors
Make small windows appear wider and taller with draperies that fall to the floor and are wider than the natural window. Keep draperies in lighter colors or in sheer, gauzy materials instead of heavy and dark.
Mirrors on the walls will reflect the natural light of the room and give it a larger feel.
Furniture that fits
Smaller rooms should have furniture that is to scale and ensures adequate walking space to main pieces. Try to find sofas with clean lines and thinner arms for a more tailored, less bulky look. Look for smaller end and coffee tables, especially glass. The clarity of glass gives the illusion of more space.
kick the clutter
Clutter is a small room's worst enemy. Keep personal knickknacks and small accessories to a minimum, and look for multipurpose furniture. Choose a console table that has drawers for additional storage, and use ottomans in the place of a coffee table - they can double as additional seating for guests and often open for storage.
