"St. Nicholas: Discovering the Truth About Santa Claus" opens Friday, Oct. 19 at the National Czech & Slovak Museum & Library.
All ages can learn how St. Nicholas is celebrated around the world in this exhibit.
Artifacts, fine art, icons, toys and more will depict the Advent and Christmas saint turned Santa. The exhibit explores stories and legends about the white-bearded man with a bottomless bag of toys. Featuring international customs and faith traditions, the exhibit is fun, festive and educational for the entire family.
Hands-on activities for children include puzzles, rubbings and the opportunity to make an origami-style St. Nicholas miter (Bishop's hat).
“Santa Claus is recognized worldwide and the accompanying traditions are as diverse as the children and adults who look forward to the festive holiday season,” said Curator, Stefanie Kohn.
Exhibit closes Dec. 31. Group tour rates to all exhibits are available by reservation only. Call (319) 362-8500 for more details.
